Prerequisites and requirements

To ensure a safe and effective learning environment, certain prerequisites must be met before enrolling in our lifeguard training course. We focus on building a strong foundation for all our future lifeguards.

Age requirement

Candidates must be 15 years of age or older

Swim requirements

  • Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
    1. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
    2. Surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound diving brick.
    3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point with both hands holding the brick and your face at or above the water.
    4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Having the right equipment is crucial for your success in our lifeguard training program. Please ensure you have the following items ready for your class sessions:

Equipment necessary

  • Swimsuit (one-piece for females, jammers or trunks for males)
  • Goggles
  • Towel
  • Whistle (Fox 40 classic recommended)
  • Rescue tube (available for purchase or rent, please inquire)
  • CPR mask with one-way valve (pocket mask)
  • Notebook and pen/pencil
  • Comfortable clothing for classroom sessions
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn!
